iPHONE MODS

iPhone

I was recently intrigued by the ELSE mobile phone (http://firstelse.com/) and was looking for a way to change my iPhone UI to match. I haven't transformed my iPhone completely yet, but have made great strides towards achieving my goal.

I did a little research (google) and found a bunch of winterboard themes that blew my mooned. The couple that caught my attention the most are: HTC hero, weater widget, and Multi bar Lock Screen.

Click the images below for links to instructions and downloads.

I edited the Email, Phone, and iPod icons as you can see. I also intsalled fivelicon, which adds the ability for five coloms of icons. (4 rows are blank to keep the Clock & Weather widget viewable). The background is from Camille Rose Garcia. Which I took 4 different painting and blending them horizontaly so the different page backgrounjds flow together.

My next goal is to get the 3 icons at the bottom (Email,Phone, and iPod) to act more as menus. I did some testing with Stack, but it doesn't work how I like. I need 3 seperate menus and currently Stack only offers one. Also the Stack icon doesnt rest on the bottom of the screen like my current menus do. I am looking into other ways to do this and will post any updates.

MAC TABLETmac Tablet
CUREENT STATUS:
The mac tablet project is currently on hold until I can get the money to purchase a new touch screen panel. The touch screen panel purchased from eBay is broken and the seller will not accept a return.

Mac tablets are rumored to be released shortly. Well I can't wait, so I have began constructing my own mac tablet.

The tablet is a modified macbook. I took an old macbook and removed the LCD screen and keyboard following the instructions at: ifixitLogo (ifixit.com). After removing the LCD, I took the top of the shell and cut a hole in the top for the display. I then removed the metal brackets on the LCD and reversed them so the LCD sits in the top case facing out the new hole.

The next step was finding the touchscreen component. I searched the web for answers and came up with a couple ideas.

  1. Digital Tablet placed behind the screen. (Many Examples here)
  2. Add a second touch screen monitor
  3. Touch Screen add-on kit (Lava Technologies)

I decided to go for the 3rd choice. I bought my add-on kit on eBay, but would use Lava Technologies in any other builds (hard to find a 13in touch screen, but lucked out on eBay).
I am currently waiting for the touchscreen to arrive in the mail. Once it arrives I will test it on my other macbook before removing it from its case and attaching it to my modified macbook.

Once I get the touch panel added and working correctly I will fabricate a case out of plexiglass to house the complete unit.

UPDATE:
The touchscreen unit had arrived, but needs a little work before I can make it work. It seems the ribbon cable from the touch panel has cracked and is unable to conduct signals. I plan to run wires directly to the 4 touch panel sensors and connect them to the USB controller.
